ABOUT

YAMATO Taiko DrummersDiscover the power of Taiko with YAMATO

YAMATO is a Japanese Taiko drum group based in Asuka-mura, Nara Prefecture, known in Japan as the cradle of the country. They describe themselves as “YAMATO, the Taiko drum group touring around the world.” Since their formation in 1993, they have performed over 4,500 times in 54 countries across the globe. YAMATO’s work with Taiko cannot be fully captured by the word “performance.” They have played in theaters, schools, various events, and have even conducted workshops and Taiko lessons. They spend half of the year touring in Japan and the other half on a world tour. Their motto is ” We go wherever YAMATO is needed! And we bring energy to people all around the world! ” They bring joy around the world. On stage, they stand before over 40 Taiko drums, each with its own character. For instance, their largest drum, called the ‘Odaiko,’ made from a tree over 400 years old, measures about two meters in diameter and weighs 500 kg. All other Taiko drums vary in size and sound. The members of the group have trained their bodies to the limit to play these enormous Taiko drums. The acoustic pressure far exceeds what one can imagine. They don’t just blast their drums with noise; they produce delicate music that offers the listener a meticulously crafted palette of sounds. This is why YAMATO‘s original performances are known as ‘physical music,’ and continue to receive acclaim worldwide. YAMATO is sometimes intense, sometimes melancholic, sometimes comforting, and at other times comedic on stage. The audience is not just a passive spectator during their performances. They are immersed in the sound of Taiko, sweating, crying, and laughing; they become one with the artists. People from all walks of life come together around the sound of Taiko, weaving their lives and feeling the force of each other’s passion and heart. They gather to create a moment where they truly feel alive.” “Discover a new sound experience with Taiko, a sensation like never before.” YAMATO continues to travel the world. Facebook Instagram
