Experience the timeless magic of The Nutcracker, a ballet-fairytale crafted by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1892, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s tale ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.’
Once regarded as exclusively for young audiences, The Nutcracker now splendidly constructs a bridge between imagination and reality, joy and anguish. It navigates through the threats of the night, releasing the demons of the unconscious, to the morning’s liberation, promising a new day.
It is to The Nutcracker that we owe the modern Russian ballets, those of Stravinsky, Prokofiev or Shostakovich, which would have been unthinkable before. Tchaikovsky, with his latest creation, marks the end of a style of dance.
On Christmas Eve, Clara receives an extraordinary gift from her uncle Drosselmeyer: a Nutcracker in the form of a soldier.
