Ballet-fairy imagined by Pyotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky and based on Hoffmann‘s tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” in 1892.

It is to The Nutcracker that we owe the modern Russian ballets, those of Stravinsky, Prokofiev or Shostakovich, which would have been unthinkable before. Tchaikovsky, with his latest creation, marks the end of a style of dance.

Considered until recently by choreographers as a ballet aimed at the youngest audiences, The Nutcracker magnificently constructs a bridge between imagination and reality, between joy and anguish, between the threats of the night, which frees the demons of the unconscious, and the liberation of the morning, which offers the promises of a new day.

On Christmas Eve, Marie receives a gift from her uncle Drosselmeyer, a Nutcracker in the shape of a soldier. At midnight, Marie is transposed into a miniature world where her Nutcracker is a proud soldier who defends her from the Mouse King.
